TOTAL DEFENCE DAY:
Today is Total Defence Day and was bombarded with questions from Le Yang about Japanese occupation in Singapore, some of our conversation as follows:
LY: When did Wai Gong born?
Me: 1934
LY: How did he survive the Second World War?
Me: I remembered he once mentioned that when he was a child, he happened to pass by a place where there was a bag of rice left on the ground, but it was too heavy for him to carry, so he only scooped some rice onto his shirt and carried it home.
LY:How old was wai gong then? (Then he did a mental calculation)
LY: He was seven to eleven years old during that time.
Me: I don't think Japanese will any how kill the people they captured. I think if
your Wai Gong was as naughty as you now, he won't be able to survive that time.
LY: Pa Pa, how did ye ye survive the Second World War...........
